Catalogue App Solution Enhancements

After checking out a few ‘Christmas Countdown’ apps recently I’ve finally had to face up to the reality that the festive season is fast approaching (if you’re wondering 67 shopping days left). I’ve been putting off the arduous task of Christmas shopping on the high street for a while… luckly for me the YUDU catalogue app solution empowers publishers to offer their customers an alternative to barging through crowds of people to get Christmas presents. What’s more some recent improvements to the YUDU catalogue solution makes shopping on a tablet/phone a delight.

An app can have its own ‘Shopping Trolley (Android & iOS)’ were by a customer can download a catalogue and add multiple items to the trolley.

The journey for the customer is as follows: tap on product ,add product to shopping basket via the in app browser, then return to catalogue by tapping ‘Return to Catalogue’. The customer can repeat this process multiple times, at any point during the process a customer can tap the ‘Shopping Basket’ button to see what items are in their basket and then either continue shopping or processed to the checkout.

The Littlewoods app uses this feature really well; one can download “Women’s Fashion” catalogue adding multiple items to the shopping basket, then download “Sports” catalogue and continue shopping, all items previously added to the basket from “Women’s Fashion” are present. This allows a smooth user journey where one can shop across multiple catalogs within one app and then pay for all the items at once in said shopping basket.

Improved Usability (iOS)

There is an app build setting to enable tool bar labels so that app users will know what said icon function is, if they cannot determine this from the icon alone.

Additionally, the previous thumbnail navigation function was not always intuitive a ‘Navigation Toolbar Icon’ has now been added to allow users easier access to this function.

When searching for a certain product within a 1000 page catalogue the improved search feature becomes a useful alley, YUDU’s ‘Search (Android & iOS)’ has had a UI make over. The search feature can work in conjunction with the contents menu; when a customer searches for a product the search result will display the following info related to the search term used:

    • An image of the page
    • Page number
    • Main Category (taken from contents menu)
    • Sub Category (taken from contents menu)

Now back to planning how to avoid having to go to the high street to do my Christmas shopping.

This is the second of a series of blog posts that highlight recently added features to the YUDU app solution.
