YUDU’s thoughts on Apple’s Subscription Launch

Two weeks ago YUDU predicted that Apple would announce a subscription based service, and what do you know, we were right! Apple has now announced its subscriptions model, which will enforce a “one click to buy, one click to confirm” model through the App Store.

Publishers must now make all paid content available for purchase through the App Store, thus ensuring that Apple get 30% commission.  In short Publishers can no longer direct people away from the app store to take payment on a third party website via links or any signposting. Rather publishers must now make all paid content available for purchase through the App Store.

The good news!

YUDU’s system is fully compliant as we have always followed the Apple rules! Our system can also allows publishers to sell subscriptions off the app store and link in to the Apple store if this is a requirement. YUDU also believe that  two click enforcement will result in a commercial net benefit to the publishers.
