The Testicle Cookbook on YUDU Hits the Spot…light

Currently the most viewed item published on the new YUDU.com website is Ljubomir Erovic’s multimedia cookbook, The Testicle Cookbook – Cooking with Balls. The Serbian chef has had HUGE media interest with the world’s first testicle cookbook. The story has been picked up on TV, radio shows, websites, newspapers, magazines and blogs from all over the world and turned our friend Erovic into an overnight sensation! Some of the great write ups (that I can understand with my lack of languages) include: The Guardian Blog, The Times, The Telegraph, which includes a great video, Machochip and Yumsugar.

The full cookbook is available to buy on YUDU but there is also a ‘teaser version’ available for free that includes five of the best recipes and How-To videos, including one on how to peel the skin off both frozen and fresh testicles.

It’s a great example of the possibilities of YUDU.com, and whilst it may make some of you slightly squeamish, it’s obviously hit the spot for many! It’s been great to see all the comments on the many write ups - the good, the bad and the funny. A few that stick in my memory: ‘Warning, may contain nuts’, and one that started ‘Bought some lamb goolies from Bolton Market not long ago…’ fantastic… all day entertainment!

We’d love to hear your comments on the cookbook – especially from anyone who has actually tried any of  the recipes. There’s a comments and review box on the item details page of the teaser or you can always comment on the YUDU blog, below. Surely there’s more puns out there?!

The YUDU team are yet to try out any of the recipes… but we know what’s on the menu our next party. Want to join us anyone?!

Metro launches their digital edition with YUDU

Yesterday saw the launch of e-Metro, a national daily newspaper that will be allowing readers to catch up for free on a daily basis with a YUDU digital edition of the Metro, the 4th largest daily national in the UK.

We are very proud to say that the Metro chose to use our advanced, professional publishing solution, YUDU Publishing Pro. It’s a great step for YUDU and Metro, but also for newspapers as a whole…. let’s hope it means the introduction of more free digital newspapers for us all to benefit from.

You can read today’s edition, as well as the last four days, by visiting www.metro.co.uk/e-metro. Simply add your email address to subscribe and read it for free every day.

I for one will be extremely glad of this digital edition, not only because it’s a fantastic title to add to YUDU’s growing list of YUDU Pro clients, but also for my own personal benefit and that of the poor commuters who happen to sit near me on the tube.

I hate to admit it but I’m one of those awful people who can’t help but try and read someone else’s Metro upside down, whilst squished on the tube, wishing I’d managed to grab one on the way to work. It’s a terrible habit, but one that we’ve all done – you see an article of interest… and you just can’t help it! Well now I / you won’t need to… we can just wait ’til we get to work and simply view the YUDU digital edition online.

It has also excited my friend who’s about to move to Australia… she’ll still be able to get her daily dose of the Metro and catch up on all things happening in sunny England!

Once in the edition, there is a really easy ‘share me’ button, that lets you send the edition to friends and family with ease, as well as easy bookmark buttons for Digg, Del.icio.us, Newsvine and also posting it to facebook. Have a read and pass it on!

How to link to a specific page in your YUDU publication

We’ve had a number of people asking is they can send out links that take people directly to a specific page within their YUDU digital publication, as opposed to the front cover. So… I thought I’d share it with you all!

Yes is the answer… it’s really easy. It’s great to use when referencing something in particular in your blog, in online articles or on your website. Also, a lot of our catalogue companies use it to direct customers to the particular item they are enquiring about.

To do it, simply go to the page in your publication that you wish to link to. Then, click the sharing button (the @ symbol) on the reader toolbar and select the ‘send to a friend’ option. A box will appear, with the options of sending a link to the first page or sending a link to the ‘current’ page.

The link to ‘the current page’ is what you are after - either use the YUDU send to a friend tool or just copy and paste the link … and there you have it!

This works with both our Pro and Freedom products.

Congratulations – MacBook AIR Winner!

A big congratulations to Susan Mackey from New York, who won the YUDU Freedom prize draw for MacBook Air!

After spreading the word about YUDU Freedom, Susan was entered into the prize draw… and allocated a number. It was her lucky number ’873′ that was chosen at random (with thanks to RT. Hon. Nigel Evans MP!).

A big thanks to everyone who entered. We’ll be running another competition shortly….

247% growth of digital publications reported by Gilbane Group – & that’s before we launched YUDU Freedom!

The first industry wide research report has been published by Gilbane Group, offering ‘Growth, Trends and Best Practices’ of the digital magazine and newspaper industry. Drawing on audited data and information from YUDU and other digital publishing players, the report highlights 247% growth of publications that have gone digital since 2005, with over 3,200 publications now in circulation.

Interestingly, Gilbane Group estimate that this number will rise to over 8000 by 2009 – but this report was written before we launched Freedom! We’ve almost hit that number of publications in less than one month of going live, highlighting that the introduction of our free online digital publishing system is moving the industry forward even faster – great news for publishers and readers alike.

The report includes over 20 case studies of best practice, including some of our very own clients’ success stories , including Welco, a large catalogue publisher for industrial products, Navy News, a magazine aimed at the Royal Navy and other service personnel, and GradPlus, who produce Gradlife, a job opportunity and career information magazine for graduates.

The number of publications offering a digital edition has increased by 277% between 2005 and 2007. Interestingly, and in accordance with our own data, the number of business to business publications offering subscriptions has increased by 327%, a much faster rate than business to consumer publications, which have seen an increase of 233%. The number of actual subscribers has increased by 315%. The report stated, “When content is aligned with a readers job responsibilities, digital subscriptions are more popular”.

The report concluded that digital editions are best used in conjunction with a website, as part of almost every digital publishing strategy, and that the two should be well integrated and co-ordinated.  Gilbane believe that while digital publishing is still in its early stages, innovation to date has been impressive and technology will continue to improve.

YUDU have already committed to continuous development. And with the introduction of Freedom, we have seen the market for digital editions grow substantially in just 1 month. And this is just the beginning… there is so much more to come from YUDU that it will only get better!

And once again, a big thank you to our customers who took part in the Gilbane study, we really appreciate your help.

How Do YUDU

The champagne was flowing for the YUDU team again last week…after winning our fifth award in as many months!

This time it was for ‘The Most Innovative Media Product / Platform’ at the How Do Awards, held at Manchester United’s football grounds. It was a great awards do and so nice to see lots of familiar faces from the Manchester media scene.

On the same night, YUDU was also awarded 2nd place for the ‘Best Use of Technology’ at the Travolution Awards in London. I’d like to say a huge well done to two of our clients that were nominated as finalists for their YUDU digital travel brochures, Gold Medal and i-to-i Meaningful Travel.

Previous awards and accolades in the last 5 months include:

  • Supplier of the Year Gold Award, Revolution Awards
  • 13th Fastest Growing Digital Media Agency, Media Momentum Top 50
